St. Croix ArtBarn will offer a week long puppet workshop with The Puppet Man, Chris Lutter, Monday July 30-Friday-August 3 from 10 AM-4 PM. Lutter has been making masks, puppets, costumes, sets, floats and various theatrical accouterments out of waste materials for over ten years. He has taught the process of transforming trash into imaginative art to communities throughout the upper Midwest and he is bringing his art to the St. Croix Valley. A recipient of the 2006 Bush Foundation Fellowship, Lutter is founder of Puppet Farm Arts, whose mission is to enliven and enrich communities by engaging people in collaborative and eco-conscious art-making. His vision is to improve the health of human communities and the Earth by teaching people the process of transforming waste materials into imaginative art. Through art, Lutter teaches respect for the environment and conservation of resources; confronts social and political injustices; advocates for the imaginative and creative lives of children and youth; brings community members together in creative solidarity; and fosters artistic culture across our social landscape. Participants will help Lutter produce work for the ArtBarn musical, Sing Down the Moon, to be presented the last two weekends of August. Workshops are open to all ages; family participation is encouraged.
