THE DAY ON THE FARM

Dear diary,

I had o skip school today to work on farm.  I had to brush to dogs and feed them too.
I had to bush the horses and feed them too.  Then I had to clean the horseshoes for them.  Give the cows a block of salt.  Brush the cats, and feed them too.  I had to get the sheep in a different pen and feed the pigs.  Help daddy milk the cows.  One of the gross's things was skinning the chicken.  Then I ate my lunch.  Then I had to clean up the rabbit cage.  Last but not least I had to help mamma cook dinner.

THE BIG RED EXCITING BARN?

I have a pet her name is Bette
She's a very very good pet.
I call her name and she comes running.
She has o fame but it's all in her name.
She wags her tail in the hail and shakes a pail.
She's afraid of thunder and goes to my mom and dad's bed right under.
She shakes and whines and begs and chomps her lips,
She's 77 ears old and has a bad hips.
She's older than me, yes, that's true, she lifts me up
When I'm feeling blue.
She's my friend till the very end.
She means no harm and lives on a farm.
She barks when a tractor parks.
She likes cats and chews on hats.

THE OLD BARN

I'm Kelly and I live on a farm.  We have one barn, three cows, four pigs, five chickens and two horses.  One day I got up early to do chores as after breakfast I was going to visit my grandpa for a week.  I rushed gathering eggs, feeding the pigs and chickens, milking the cows (Betsy, Blossom and Rosy) and last I combed the horses.

After breakfast I packed my leather bag with work dresses, sunbonnets and my best Sunday dress.  Pa and I hitched the horses to our covered wagon and rode off.  When we got to grandpas I played with the kittens.  Then grandpa and I went to the old barn.  "Yep", he said "Pretty good barn and pretty old".  The barn looked like it had been around for centuries.

Then grandpa told me a story.  "Once there was a farmer who lived in a farm house just like that one (he pointed to his house).  A storm was about to hit so he gathered the animals, his wife and kids.  They took cover in the barn.  The farmer knew the worst of the storm was yet to come.  Suddenly he heard shouts from outside.  He opened the door and quickly let in many, many, people.  Their homes had blown down and hey too took cover in the barn.  Because the barn had kept everyone safe it became a landmark".  "That's a story about you, grandpa"! I said.  Grandpa said with a smile, "Yep! I love this barn"!

My Diary

May 19, 1981

Today I helped daddy on the farm.  I helped move the pigs from a round pen to the field.  There they can eat.  Then I rode one of my horses.  It was fun!  Then we had to move the pigs again or they would get too fat.  Daddy let me ride the tractor.  Today was fun.

May 20, 1981

I got sick today so I couldn't help daddy on the farm.  Mom had to stay with me, but she got a call from our friends saying they needed my mom's help because their cow was having a baby  My mom took me with.

May 21, 1981

Today is my last day on the farm.  I will miss it.  Tomorrow I have to go to School.  Bye farm.  Bye diary.

A BARN'S STORY

I am a barn.  I have lived for many, many years.  I can show you  my life by painting pictures with words.  I have seen American since i was a young country.  I have been worked on for many years, with many hands.  Let me tell you about me, about my life, and about American.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION

George Washington slept in me, while his army slept in the loft.  I can't tell you about the importance I felt, but I can tell you that I didn't leak!!!

CIVIL WAR

This was ot fun -- okay, neither war was fun.  Bullets tore holes in me.  I saw young, innocent lives snuffed out -- like you would snuff out a candle!!!  Outrageous, and it was so sad.  Okay, enough wars  Let's talk about something happier!!!

MY LIFE'S STORY

One stormy summer month, I was knocked down by a big summer windstorm.  I lay on the ground, and slept for 4 years.  Then, firemen burned me down.  Now, I am only ash, lying on the ground.  I cannot talk anymore, for I am tired.  Good night, and may you all live happily ever after.
