In memory of my friend,
George:
It was in the midst of
the evening
That I stood on the hillside
alone,
Just out of sight of
my neighbors
Almost in sight of my
home.
I had walked out there
to the coal bank,
A simple task you might
say,
For I usually chose to
go walking
In the warm heat of the
day.
I had been but a short
time walking
It seems I had only begun
When out of the cloudless
evening
Came God's most glorious
sun.
I was joined by some
of my neighbors
Friends who passed by
that day,
I wish that they could
have heard Jesus
And all that He had to
say.
But as they came by that
evening
They could not speak,
nor could I,
For they found me peacefully
sleeping
And they tenderly bade
me goodbye.
For I had gone home with
my master
To my mansion prepared
in the sky,
To help swell the heavenly
chorus
As they sing in the sweet
bye and bye.

note: As
a minister I often write poems as a part of the obituary.
Here is
a poem I wrote for my friend, George Hoskins...
George
was a coal miner in Viper, KY...and also a fellow member of the church
choir, a deacon, and a very close friend.
